Academic Programs International (API): High School Summer Abroad

Develop relevant global skills through safe, fun, and enriching summer study abroad program in France or Spain. API’s programs help you develop competencies that prepare you for a lifetime of global awareness and involvement.

This collective listing includes information about three of these summer programs.

- Pre-College Summer Art and Design at Parsons Paris

High school students are introduced to the art and design college experience in Paris. The program is open to high school students entering their junior or senior year and recent high school graduates. This program can also help those developing a portfolio for the college admissions process. Classes are taught in English and students live in double rooms in a three-star hotel located 20-25 minutes via subway from Parsons Paris. Explore the City of Lights through excursions. Past activities have included visiting the chateau de Chambord, Eiffel Tower, Louvre, and Notre-Dame. 3 credits can be earned through their studying art and design at the host university. 

- Summer High School Spanish Language and Culture in Salamanca for College Credit

Students ages 16-18 will study at the University of Salamanca and earn 2.5 to 5 credits. This Spanish immersion program is an excellent opportunity for students to improve their language skills and learn more about the culture of Spain. Living with host families, students will spend two weeks immersing themselves in this new environment. Some past activities have included hiking the Salamanca Mountains, visiting the Toro wineries, and spending a whole day exploring Madrid. 

- High School French Language and Culture Immersion

Advance your French language skills, earn valuable academic credit, experience life in the majestic "City of Light," and explore all this beautiful country has to offer! Studying at the Institut Catholique de Paris, students can earn 5 semester credits learning about the French language and culture. Students can expect to attend class during the morning and engage in recreational activities for the rest of the day. Some examples of past day trips include visiting Normandy, Versailles, and Giverny. Since the classes are taught in French, students will be expected to take a placement exam prior to arrival. 

Students in the French language and culture program will live with a local host family. Host families serve as a unique introduction into French culture and may be made up of a married couple with children, retirement-age couples, or a divorced or widowed woman with or without children.
