The Applied Science & Engineering session (ASE) is designed for students who are interested in learning about the physical sciences and applying scientific principles to real-world applications.
Students examine disciplines such as physics, chemistry, astronomy, and earth science and explore interdisciplinary applications ranging from the nanoscopic to the astronomical in scale. In ASE, students are challenged to examine the world as scientists as they gain exposure to a wide array of physical and applied sciences topics. The session builds students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, while simultaneously stressing the importance of collaboration and teamwork, thereby training students to become more impactful scientists.
Yale Young Global Scholars Program invites high school students from over 125 countries and all 50 U.S. states to spend two weeks at Yale University attending an academic session of their choice. Participants experience university life through Yale faculty lectures and small-scale seminars, all while meeting peers from around the world.
Is ASE a Good Fit for Me?
If you are intrigued by any of the following questions, then this session is a great choice: How do we perceive color or hear sound? • What chemical processes are used in cooking? • How do we go about finding new planets, and could they sustain human life? • How can we best mitigate human pollution in the atmosphere, oceans, and soil? • Can we use observations from nature to improve how we design products and buildings?
