The New York Academy of Sciences is offering an exciting program for students interested in ancestry, DNA, and all things biology.
During this program, students have the opportunity to take an at-home ancestry test and learn about their very own ancient maternal lineage. They'll also download publicly available data from the Human Genome Diversity Project in order to study and classify unique ancestries from more than one thousand individuals. They can also expect to learn how to perform basic statistics on the data. Other exciting topics include the preservation of DNA, the sequencing of DNA, and how to read a scientific paper. Students will walk away from this program with basic knowledge of genetics, progrmaming, biology, and statistics.
