    Overview

The University of Mary Washington is a public, four-year liberal arts and sciences institution in Fredericksburg, Virginia dedicated to creating the best possible student experience. We create meaningful connections and transformative experiences through small classes and diverse student activities.

As a liberal arts and science university, the University of Mary Washington gets to the root of learning with small classes led by expert faculty, chances for collaboration and independent study, and course sequences that advance knowledge. Find a field you love, give your mind room to roam, go on adventures, take risks, seek out intersections, chase answers, and create fresh insight. You'll be prepared to think broadly and find solutions, no matter the area of study.

Our 100+ undergraduate majors, minors, and programs include Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Science, Communication and Digital Science, and Psychology. Mary Wash was established as a teacher's college in 1908, and since then our Education department has been dedicated to continuing to prepare the next generations of educators. The Historic Preservation department at UMW prepares students for work in the fields of preservation, cultural resource management, museum management, as well as further work toward graduate degrees in archaeology, history, architectural history and conservation, urban planning, and museum studies.

In the classroom and beyond, our courses overflow with inquiry and exploration. Deep thinking and doing happen daily here. We go for collaboration over competition. You'll work with professors who double as mentors. They'll help you tap into your strenghts and talents. This is how you find potential.
