    Overview

For nearly a century, our Music Department has been preparing students for music careers through a rigorous conservatory-style experience plus a well-rounded education. Explore your creativity and gain hands-on experience in music education, industry, or performance.

Join a creative, talented community of peers and teachers who challenge you to become the best musician you can be, while cheering you on every step of the way. You’ll learn a solid core of music history and theory, gain artistry on your instrument, and have ample opportunities to perform – and that’s just the start. On top of that, you’ll receive a thorough education in your chosen field, with internships and projects that put your knowledge to practical use. Our graduates have gone on to form their own bands, manage record labels and artists, and teach in schools all over the country. Some of their employers: Downtown Music, Distiller Records, The Network for New Music, and Yamaha.

    We offer the following degrees:

B.A. in Music – Tailor your study to your own interests, and choose a track: vocal, keyboard, or instrumental studies; conducting; composition; music history or theory; or musical theater. You can also minor or double major in a non-music field.

B.S. in Music Education – A rigorous course of training and fieldwork ensures you complete the requirements for New York State K-12 certification and prepares you for any music-teaching position in public or private schools. You’ll also develop teaching and performance skills on woodwind, brass, percussion, string, and keyboard instruments, as well as voice.

B.S. in Music/Music Industry – Gain a solid foundation in music creation and performance, audio recording and music production, and music business and entrepreneurship, in the program Billboard recognized as one of the top music business programs in North America.

B.M. in Music Performance – Learn a variety of musical styles and develop a solid repertoire, while you perform in a variety of solo, chamber, and large-ensemble settings. You’ll also learn entrepreneurship and networking skills, so you’re as comfortable promoting yourself as you are playing for an audience.
