Urban Tree Connection partners directly with community members to reclaim vacant land and convert it into welcoming public spaces that bring people together.
Our accomplishments include the development of a 3/4 acre urban farm plus additional spaces for growing edible crops, two community gardens, and three perennial gardens that beautify the streetscape.
We are pleased to welcome anyone from an individual volunteer to a group of up to 50 people at one time. Over the years, we have hosted a diverse array of corporate groups, schools, summer camps, university groups, congregations, alternative spring break programs, and service groups. We can accommodate people of every age, skill level, and physical ability.
We recommend that volunteers schedule a three-hour block of time, ideally in the morning, though we are happy to accommodate each group's particular needs and interests. Depending on our current priorities, volunteers might help with projects such as planting, weeding, harvesting crops, picking up trash and recycling, building raised beds or fences, clearing new garden sites, or mowing. We always ensure that there are appropriate tasks available for volunteers of all ages and for those with physical limitations. Often, children from the neighborhoods where we work will join in the effort, giving volunteers a personal sense of the people they are helping.
