South Street Seaport Museum seeks to ensure that everyone has an awareness of the important role the South Street Seaport area has played, and has access to the ships and buildings that helped create New York City.
Since its founding, the Museum’s mission has been to preserve and interpret the history of the Port of New York. Port activity and sustainability are as pertinent now as they were in the 19th Century, when the Seaport was known for its -treet of ships. The critical work performed by Volunteers and Interns is essential to the effort at South Street Seaport Museum, to tell the story of New York the port city, and New York the island at the center of the world. Volunteers are part of our crew, working together, enabling South Street Seaport Museum to achieve its mission.
Volunteer opportunities vary but each contributes an important part to the whole organization.
