Mission Statement

King Scholars program help inspire conservation action in guests at Brookfield Zoo through interpretation, all while building their own leadership, conservation mindset, science awareness, career skills and college readiness through interactive workshops, activities, research and community action projects.

Students who are accepted into the program are expected to complete 120 hours of service which is gained through a series of interactive workshops that build on science and career skills as well as college readiness. These workshops will be held on weekends and school holidays at the Zoo and partner locations in surrounding communities. Hours will also be earned through interpretation here at the Zoo and assisting with special events. In this role, teens serve as educators in the zoo to teach guests about our animals and exhibits. There is no animal contact. After one year in the program, there are opportunities for more focused science research and community action projects as well as paid positions and scholarships.
