San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) creates new ways of looking at and living in the world. Since 1871, SFAI has attracted individuals who push beyond boundaries to discover uncharted artistic terrain.
A West Coast legacy of radical innovation grounds our philosophy and fuels a learning approach that is gutsy and transformative. We believe that art and ideas can change the world.
SFAI offers BFA and BA degrees, MFA (academic year and summer options) and MA degrees, a Dual MA/MFA degree, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate, Exhibitions and Public Programs, and Public & Youth Education programs. Notable past faculty and alumni include Lance Acord, Ansel Adams, Kathryn Bigelow, Enrique Chagoya, Angela Davis, Richard Diebenkorn, Paul Kos, George Kuchar, Annie Leibovitz, Barry McGee, Catherine Opie, Peter Pau, and Kehinde Wiley.
SFAI is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). SFAI is also a member of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD).
