Woodshop Summer Programs
A time-honored pastime and building block for middle and high school students seeking employment in the trades, woodshop is a hands-on experience that allows participants to express their creativity and learn useful skills. There are dedicated Woodshop Summer Programs and programs that include woodshop among an array of activities, such as swimming, sailing, archery, woodshop, arts & crafts, music, performing arts and sports. Students learn how wood works and behaves, how to sharpen saws, planes and chisels, how to use tools like a hand plane, how to prep lumber for woodworking, how to cut joints and how to finish furniture. Expert woodworkers teach students the elements of good design, as well as how to plan for a successful build. Depending on the program, students can commute during the day or stay overnight. Residential programs are typically those that include other arts and activities.
