Ice Skating Summer Programs
Organized ice skating instruction and fun during the summer gives boys and girls the opportunity to enjoy the company of like-minded peers and develop their skating abilities. Ice Skating Summer Programs come in different varieties, and include specialized figure skating programs that immerse participants in days- or weeks-long instructional regimes to boost their skills and improve their chances in progressive competition. Instructors drawn from colleges and with experience nationally, internationally and on the Olympic level teach figure skating at various skill levels. Ice skating more broadly is also featured in many summer programs. Often a coed program, ice skating programs teach coordination, agility, balance and flexibility. They give students increasingly advanced abilities, from sitting and standing up on the ice to marching, the two-foot glide, dipping and swizzles and wiggles. Some programs are affiliated with U.S. Figure Skating or USA Hockey. There are also therapeutic skating, performance-based skating and other options.
