Francesca DeSilvio (center, above) spent part of her summer in the pre-med and science pre-college program at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program? I chose the Wagner Pre-Med and Science Pre-College Program because I wanted to learn more about the medical field and thought there would be no better place to attend a summer program than a college that I always wanted to attend. How did you decide which program or camp was right for you? Something always fascinated me about the medical field. I love the idea of helping ...

VISIONS Service Adventures: Jasmine Berger

Jasmine Berger lived and volunteered on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation with VISIONS Service Adventures. What made you pick a summer program through Visions? VISIONS combined my favorite things – travel, learning and community service. What I love about VISIONS is that the main focus of the trip is volunteering. Although there is still plenty of time to relax and explore, serving the community is the top priority. What was a typical day like during this program? The weekday was structured around different worksites and projects. Every day we would choose between the different volunteering opportunities: soup kitchens, restocking food pantries, ...

UConn Pre-College Summer: Nia Foster

Nia Foster spent part of her summer at the University of Connecticut’s Pre-College Summer Program. Why did you choose to participate in UConn’s Pre-College Summer program? I chose to participate in UConn’s Pre-College Summer program, because after visiting the university and finding out about the pre-vet program, I spoke with my mother and reiterated how working with animals is all I wanted to do. The university is like a small community filled with so many opportunities, accompanied by smiles and friendly faces. I didn’t envision, nor did I seek other opportunities for a summer program. During my visit, I was ...

Cornell University Summer College: Logan Roberts

Logan Roberts participated in Cornell University’s Summer College program. Why did you choose to participate in an academic summer program? I have always believed that there is no better investment one can make than an investment in education. Having the opportunity to study at a world-class institution like Cornell was a dream come true. Rather than spending the summer simply looking forward to the future, Summer College empowered me to actively shape the future I wanted for myself. How did you decide that Summer College was right for you? Having spent my entire life living a mere 25 minutes away ...

Idyllwild Arts Academy: Ekaterina Kate Gladkaia

Ekaterina Kate Gladkaia came from Russia to spend a summer at Idyllwild Arts Academy in Southern California. What made you decide to come to Idyllwild Arts Academy? I found Idyllwild Arts from an international school fair in my own country, Russia, and it immediately drew my attention because of the incredible program where you would work as hard as a college student. This is a very big advantage of Idyllwild Arts: what makes it one of the best summer programs in the U.S. What did you discover or study at Idyllwild? My personal experience is connected with a Film & ...

Inward Bound Mindfulness Retreats: Austin Thoren

Austin Thoren has partipated in mindfulness retreats with Inward Bound Mindfulness Education (iBme). Why did you choose to participate in a summer program? I chose to go on my first summer teen retreat when I was 15 years old. It was the summer following my first year of high school and I didn’t have any plans to do anything cool, except to go on retreat. I chose to go because I had been on a similar retreat a few months earlier that had been one of the greatest experiences of my life and I wanted to be a part of ...

Engineering Summer Academy at Penn (ESAP): Austin Crawley

Austin Crawley spent part of his summer at the Engineering Summer Academy at the University of Pennsylvania. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program or go to overnight camp? Each year I participate in a summer program for enrichment. In my overall development and preparation for college, I needed to experience life away from home at a university where I’m ...

Olivia Collymore participated in a summer writing class through Wellesley College’s Pre-College Exploratory Workshop.

Olivia Collymore participated in a summer writing class through Wellesley College’s Pre-College Exploratory Workshop. Though I did not know much about Wellesley College, it was a college that I associated with producing women who were strong and independent. When I read about Wellesley's Pre-College Exploratory Workshops, I jumped on the chance, as a high-school senior, to explore life on the campus. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed the amazing architecture around the buildings. The way the concrete sculptures fell on the building gave the campus an overwhelming feeling of elegance. By the time I was moved into my dorm room it ...

Chloe Frantzis attended a flash-fiction class at Wellesley Pre-College summer program for high school students.

Chloe Frantzis participated in a one-week flash-fiction course that was part of Welllesley’s Pre-College Summer Program. There were a few things I knew for certain when I entered Wellesley's One Week Pre-College Workshop: First, I had no clue what to expect. Second, I had no clue what flash fiction was. And, third, I was most certainly not going to an all-women's college. I am a currently a senior at Newton South High School in Massachusetts -- which is approximately a seven-minute drive away from Wellesley College. Although I had gone to multiple athletic camps, I was looking for another experience ...
