Olivia Collymore participated in a summer writing class through Wellesley College’s Pre-College Exploratory Workshop.

Olivia Collymore participated in a summer writing class through Wellesley College’s Pre-College Exploratory Workshop. Though I did not know much about Wellesley College, it was a college that I associated with producing women who were strong and independent. When I read about Wellesley's Pre-College Exploratory Workshops, I jumped on the chance, as a high-school senior, to explore life on the campus. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed the amazing architecture around the buildings. The way the concrete sculptures fell on the building gave the campus an overwhelming feeling of elegance. By the time I was moved into my dorm room it ...

Chloe Frantzis attended a flash-fiction class at Wellesley Pre-College summer program for high school students.

Chloe Frantzis participated in a one-week flash-fiction course that was part of Welllesley’s Pre-College Summer Program. There were a few things I knew for certain when I entered Wellesley's One Week Pre-College Workshop: First, I had no clue what to expect. Second, I had no clue what flash fiction was. And, third, I was most certainly not going to an all-women's college. I am a currently a senior at Newton South High School in Massachusetts -- which is approximately a seven-minute drive away from Wellesley College. Although I had gone to multiple athletic camps, I was looking for another experience ...

Isabella Ogbolumani was a student at Wellesley College’s Immersive Pre-College Summer Program. This is how she describes the program: All my life, I had heard about how great Wellesley is from the women in my family who studied at Wellesley and loved it. However, it was not until I completed a summer term at Wellesley's Immersive Pre-College Program that I truly saw how great Wellesley is. The minute I pulled up to Stone-Davis Hall and climbed out of the car, I was met with the classic Wellesley warmth. I was greeted by super nice, welcoming and accommodating people that I ...

William & Mary NIAHD: Jonas Kristensson

Jonas Kristensson spent part of summer at the College of William & Mary's National Institute of American History and Democracy. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program or go to overnight camp? I’ve always tried to do fun and interesting things during the summer, so I was looking at quite a few programs. An overnight pre-college program was something I hadn’t tried yet, and the prospect of meeting new people and getting a taste of college life appealed to me. It helped that I was a rising senior in high school, which meant that I was at ...

Travel For Teens: Katie Curran

Katie Curran traveled to Germany, France and England with Travel for Teens the summer of 2014 at age 16. She visited Berlin, Paris and London. Reason to get out of my comfort zone: I have a true passion for traveling, and I always want to explore new places. Travel for Teens looked like an amazing organization that would allow me to experience three dynamic cities as a traveler instead of a tourist. To me, travel is a great adventure of self-exploration. Through my experiences, travel has become the blood that fills my veins, making me who I am. As a ...

Middlebury Interactive Language Academy: Abigail Benz

Abigail Benz spent part of a summer in a Spanish Immersion program with the Middlebury Interactive Language Academy. Beep, Beep, Beep. It was seven o’clock in the morning on my first day at the Spanish Academy. “Buenos dias, Abigail. Tiempo para desayunar,” said my roommate. My head was spinning, and I was confused. I was thinking in English but I was supposed to be speaking Spanish. Welcome to the immersion experience! My first morning went fairly smoothly (cereal? check!), but I hit my first roadblock at lunch. I wanted some pepper from the middle of the table but it was ...

MarineQuest at UNCW: Mark Makowski

Mark Makowski spent part of his summer in the MarineQuest program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program? Marine science has always been a large part of my life. Since I was a little kid, I wanted to become a marine biologist. How did you decide which program or camp was right for you? I attended MarineQuest’s summer residential programs O.C.E.A.N.S. in 2013 and Oceans-17 in 2014. Sophomore year of high school, I started to think about potential colleges I would want to attend to get my degree in marine ...

Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Outreach Summer Program: Joelle Moore

Joelle Moore spent part of her summer at the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory Outreach Summer Program (SAILORS, now called Stanford AI4ALL). Why did you choose to participate in an overnight summer program? I decided to participate in a summer program to explore my interest in STEM outside of what is currently taught at my school. I had heard a lot about artificial intelligence and wanted to learn more. I thought the summer would be the best time to explore the field as a career. How did you decide which program or camp was right for you? I looked at several ...

Syracuse University Summer College: Riley DeBaecke

Riley DeBaecke spent part of the summer at the Syracuse University Summer College. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program? I chose to participate in a summer program because I wanted to do something meaningful with my summer. Participating in the Environmental Engineering program offered through the Syracuse University Summer College promised to help me achieve this goal. Enrolling in any summer program is beneficial to students, whether they realize the positive effects immediately or not. Not only did I gain knowledge of other cultures through social interaction with students from foreign countries, but I also continue ...

Grace Twaddell spent part of her summer in the Wagner College Pre-College Program and now attends Wagner. Why did you choose to participate in a summer program or go to overnight camp? When I signed up for the Pre-College course, I was simply looking for a way to spend my summer. How did you decide which program or camp was right for you? I planned to take a class for my EMT-B certification when the summer was over, so the Wagner College Simulated Medicine program seemed to be the perfect way to jumpstart learning what I’d need to know. What ...
