NACAC Provides a Second Chance for College Admission

Every year, NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) publishes the College Openings Update (The Update), a list of more than 250 colleges and universities that still have openings. Now in its 27^th year, this tool offers support and information for counselors, teachers, parents, and students. High school seniors who have not yet completed the college application process or have been rejected from all schools still have a chance to go to college starting in the fall of 2014.

The Update is a "Win-Win"

Joyce E. Smith, NACAC CEO, says, “This announcement is a ‘win-win’ for all parties, if students need to rethink their admissions options. Part of demystifying college admission is understanding that, for many institutions, the application process is a year-round endeavor. Some colleges and families will benefit from knowing that these options are available to them each year.” The Update can also help students find last-minute housing and financial aid.

Educators, parents, and students can view The Update until June 30, and colleges will be constantly changing their number of openings. The Update should be thought of an informational bulletin board: students can search for open spaces in colleges, and colleges can continue to fill their freshman class.
