Admission Specialists is a college consulting firm in Boston. The principal of the firm, Will Dunfey, has been an independent college consultant for 15 years and also has served as a chief admission officer at several universities in New England. Students and families may seek short-term "targeted" service or long-term advice about the admissions process. Assistance comes in the form of academic assessment; a series of recommendations about appropriate college choices; preparation for campus trips and interviews; review of essays, resumes, and portfolios; and advice about merit aid. Will Dunfey has visited over 500 universities in the U.S. and Canada and has guided students to enrollment at over 100 colleges. Carpe Diem offers semester and year-long programs designed to safely challenge every student through service, travel, community and cultural exchange abroad. Our leaders are trained to facilitate personal growth and learning within the structure of an academic semester. We consciously teach our students how to be better group leaders and better self-leaders—and how to safely travel independently anywhere in the world. University credit and FAFSA funding is available. The average age of student participants ranges from 17-22. El Casal is a gap year program in Barcelona, Spain, for high school graduates (17 to 19 years of age) who are ready to do something different and exciting before entering college. Ideal candidates are intellectually curious, adventurous and interested in gaining perspective on the world around them. El Casal offers intensive courses in Spanish; seminars in art, film and current events; community service, outdoor adventure, and homestays with families in Barcelona. Two sessions offered, each lasting about 100 days. Rolling admission. Sea|mester offers a range of unique educational adventures where students live full-time aboard either S/Y Ocean Star or S/Y Argo while spending their entire semester sailing from island to island, country to country, or continent to continent in any number of global locations. These shipboard education programs are highly experiential, yet college-level academics are a strong component of each voyage. In this respect, students further their own knowledge as well as build their college transcripts while sailing aboard with Sea|mester. Thinking Beyond Borders takes gap year students around the world for 8 months to study the AIDS epidemic in South Africa, sustainable agriculture in India, public education in China, and clean water availability in Ecuador. While in each country, students live with families, work with non-government organizations, and study with local professors to develop a broad perspective on an issue. When students return to the US, they meet with representatives from the United Nations, World Bank, US Congress, and other government and grassroots organizations.
