Bike for a Cause: The Pan Mass Challenge
Team Daisy, Pan Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge is the biggest fundraising event in New England and the nation's largest bike-a-thon. Since its creation in 1980, the PMC has helped fight cancer by raising over $270 million for the Jimmy Fund and research funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Every year in August, thousands of cyclists gather in Massachusetts to ride one of 10 different routes of differing lengths and difficulties, the longest and most publicized the two-day, 152 mile journey from Sturbridge to Provincetown. From Babysitting to a Major in Education

I first looked as babysitting simply as a way to earn some extra spending money, until I realized the impact I made on the children I sat for. They looked up to me, and I liked the feeling of being a role model. During my junior year of high school I started the college application process and began thinking about what type of career I wanted to pursue, and the thought that kept coming to mind was something involving children. Explore Your Options with Gap Year programs

Upcoming Volunteer, Job, & Internship Opportunites
Now-April 22nd (Anywhere):The "Increase Your Green” campaign encourages teens to "green” their schools by developing creative plans to engage their classmates and address environmental issues at school. The National Grid Foundation, the campaign’s founding sponsor, is offering grants of up to $1500 for winners in New York State, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on creativity, innovation, reduction in waste, energy saved and number of students involved. Now-May 15th (Greater Boston): Teens can join a Neighborhood Ensemble and perform at the Shubert Theatre with some of the best area performing arts groups.
May 2nd: Save the date for Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger. With more people than ever struggling to put food on the table, it’s good to know there’s help close home.
Summer: The Minga Summer or Gap Year Road Trip Internship will take the Minga van on a speaking tour across North America. The internship is unpaid but you will receive a stipend for food, transportation and lodging. When applying for the road-trip internship please, if possible, also include a video clip of yourself public speaking.
Summer (Greater Boston, North Shore): Serve as a Crew Worker in the Food Project’s Summer Youth Program and work to grow and distribute thousands of pounds of organic produce for people in need. Gain invaluable skills of teamwork, accountability, civic participation, and communication. Participants receive a stipend.
Year-Round (Salem): The Northeast Animal Shelter is looking for Shelter Ambassadorsto greet guests and make sure that animals at the shelter are safe and well cared for. Teens can also be Kennel Volunteers and respond to the emotional and physical needs of the cats and dogs entrusted in the shelter's care. Want more? Check out Teen Help Wanted.

Beaver Summer Programs offers teens a wide variety of adventurous summer opportunities. Our specialty programs include High Adventure, Extreme Sports, Flying Fantasy Circus, Vertical Challenge, Tri-Star Soccer, and a Counselor-in-Training Program.

Welcome to Summer Stages Dance 2010! This July, as always, we will bring together an extraordinary group of dance artists to teach, mentor and perform. Applicants must attend an audition prior to enrollment. Auditions take place at Concord Academy's dance studio.

The Berklee College of Music Summer Performance Program, with its diversity of study options, world-class Berklee faculty, visiting artists, and state-of-the-art facilities, is the premiere contemporary music summer program for young musicians.

Emerson College offers studio programs for 15 to 18 year olds in creative writing, stage acting, musical theatre performance, stage design, filmmaking, or TV production. July 12-August 13 in Boston.

With a unique combination of musical theatre and community service, Musical Theatre Connections: Costa Rica will help you experience a new culture not as part of an outside group of tourists, but as a member of the community.

The Dexter Southfield Science and Technology Camp, for boys and girls entering grades five through ten, provides rich and stimulating experiences designed to encourage curious minds to embark on a lifelong journey through the wonders of science. Application due May 1st.

At Stanford High School Summer College high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to earn Stanford University credit while taking advantage of the exciting scholarly resources available to members of the Stanford community (June 19 - August 15).
What career have you dreamed about: government, music, environment or sports? Internship Connection establishes meaningful internships matched to your personal interests. Program Highlights: Flexible Schedule, Resume and Interview Preparation, and Mentor's Recommendation Letter.
Landmark School in Prides Crossing offers a four-week Academic Summer Program (July 5- 30, 2010) for students in grades 8-12, who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning disability. Afternoon activities are available. Application deadline is May 14th.
(3.5 weeks) for girls age 15-18. Canoe and Backpacking options, plus CIT program (7 weeks). Develop Leadership Skills! A traditional summer camp program for campers age 8-15 is also available.
Brewster Day Camp's Camper Leader Program is a unique, part time, summer opportunity for young adults ages 14-16 and/or rising 9th or 10th graders. Camper Leaders (CLs) are expected to be self reflective and to work as part of a team while identifying and taking responsibility for pursuing excellence in areas of interest.
In the Student Hosteling Program, Your group will cycle past old–world farms, along country lanes lined with rows of tall poplars, and through tiny European villages little–changed since the Middle Ages. Along the way, you'll stop often to explore castles, soaring cathedrals, and elegant chateaux. Middle school and high school trips are
separate.
