Using Horse Therapy at
Ironstone Farm
Therapy session at Ironstone Farm
One local non-profit organization, Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm, uses horses' unique ability to enhance a person's movements and touch a person's heart, inspiring strength, hope, and encouragement among people with disabilities. The farm employs 35 program horses and brings together over 200 volunteers and 20 licensed instructors and therapists to serve 450 to 500 children and adults each week, year round. Read Full Article
Training for the Boston Marathon
Chances are if you're a resident of the Greater Boston area, your plans for April 19th are pretty clear; you'll be outside enjoying the spring weather and cheering on runners of the Boston Marathon. Last spring, Laura Potter did just that, and as she watched a fellow classmate running the race go by, Laura thought to herself, "If she can do this, so can I." Read Full Article

Upcoming Volunteer, Job, & Internship Opportunites
Now-April 22nd (Anywhere): The "Increase Your Green” campaign encourages teens to "green” their schools by developing creative plans to engage their classmates and address environmental issues at school. The National Grid Foundation, the campaign’s founding sponsor, is offering grants of up to $1500 for winners in New York State, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries based on creativity, innovation, reduction in waste, energy saved and number of students involved. March 24th-May 15th (Greater Boston): Teens can join a Neighborhood Ensemble and perform at the Shubert Theatre with some of the best area performing arts groups.
March 19th: HOPE FOR HAITI Red Cross Youth Talent Competition. Proceeds from the event will go toward Haitian Red Cross Relief efforts. The event is on Friday, March 19 at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 6 pm. Tickets are $5. The event is being organized by the American Red Cross of Mass Bay’s Youth Advisory Board and Boston University Red Cross Volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help with the following: Set up, Stage managers, Sales for the concession stand, Ushers, and Clean up. March 27th (Newton): The Newton Community Service Center needs volunteers to help with FITKIDS JAMBOREE, an event for 2-5 year olds that provides children an opportunity to experience fun, athletic games, physical activity, healthy snacks, pictures, projects and more.
May 2nd: S ave the date for Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger. With more people than ever struggling to put food on the table, it’s good to know there’s help close home.School Year (Mass. Bay): Get involved with American Red Cross of Massachusetts and start a Red Cross Club at your school! Teens can also serve as Red Cross Ambassadors and take part in a diverse array of opportunities that include helping out at the Red Cross office in Cambridge or serving at its Boston Food Pantry. curriculum with meaningful service throughout the community.
Summer: Minga Development Internship- Minga's Speaking and Outreach department is hiring a fund-raising intern for the summer. You will receive priceless event planning, marketing, and fund-raising experience. This could be the experience you'll need to get your foot through the door in future career searches.This internship is unpaid, though there may be opportunities for future advancement. Hours are flexible and negotiable.
Summer: The Minga Summer or Gap Year Road Trip Internship will take the Minga van on a speaking tour across North America. The internship is unpaid but you will receive a stipend for food, transportation and lodging. When applying for the road-trip internship please, if possible, also include a video clip of yourself public speaking.
Summer (Greater Boston, North Shore): Serve as a Crew Worker in the Food Project’s Summer Youth Program and work to grow and distribute thousands of pounds of organic produce for people in need. Gain invaluable skills of teamwork, accountability, civic participation, and communication. Participants receive a stipend. Year-Round (Salem): The Northeast Animal Shelter is looking for Shelter Ambassadors to greet guests and make sure that animals at the shelter are safe and well cared for. Teens can also be Kennel Volunteers and respond to the emotional and physical needs of the cats and dogs entrusted in the shelter's care. Want more? Check out Teen Help Wanted.

 Aspire by API offers comprehensive summer travel and study abroad programs for high school students, gap year abroad programs for recent high school graduates, and customized international programs for high schools.
Edu-Culture International leads summer study abroad programs for high school students (ages 15-18) who want to improve their foreign language skills in France, Spain, or Costa Rica.
Camp Nashoba Day, located in Littleton, Massachusetts offers waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, horseback riding, tennis, climbing, archery and arts. Four and eight week sessions, 200 boys and girls ages 4 to 14.
EF International Language Schools offer language and cultural immersion programs for students age 14+, ranging in length from two weeks to any number of weeks, or year-round. Gap year opportunities are also available. EF schools are located in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Singapore.
GapSmart! provides Gap Year Consulting to students interested in maximizing their gap year experience. A Gap Year is a great way to prepare for college and life. We offer complete gap year planning packages. We primarily work with high school students looking to gap before college.
Camp Nashoba North offers a traditional, non-sectarian, co-ed sleepaway camp located in the beautiful Sebago Lake region for ages 7-17. The camp includes a supportive, active environment, a large selection of activities, wonderful food and modern facilities.
At Northeast Clinics our goal is to improve the skills of all levels of players from first time players to advanced players. Northeast Field Hockey Clinic is looking for passionate, energetic, field hockey loving players to attend our 35th Annual Field Hockey Clinic held at the Governor’s Academy in Newbury, MA on July 11-14, 2010.
Check out Beginning Guitar Classes as part of the Music Speaks program for Grades 9-12. Music Speaks, a program of Passim Folk Music & Cultural Center, teaches teenagers from all communities’ basic guitar playing and songwriting techniques. Through music education, students learn valuable life skills, including confidence, creativity, and discipline.

Welcome to Summer Stages Dance 2010! This July, as always, we will bring together an extraordinary group of dance artists to teach, mentor and perform. Applicants must attend an audition prior to enrollment. Auditions take place at Concord Academy's dance studio

The Berklee College of Music Summer Performance Program, with its diversity of study options, world-class Berklee faculty, visiting artists, and state-of-the-art facilities, is the premiere contemporary music summer program for young musicians.

Emerson College offers studio programs for 15 to 18 year olds in creative writing, stage acting, musical theatre performance, stage design, filmmaking, or TV production. July 12-August 13 in Boston.

With a unique combination of musical theatre and community service, Musical Theatre Connections: Costa Rica will help you experience a new culture not as part of an outside group of tourists, but as a member of the community.

The Dexter Southfield Science and Technology Camp, for boys and girls entering grades five through ten, provides rich and stimulating experiences designed to encourage curious minds to embark on a lifelong journey through the wonders of science. Application due May 1st.

At Stanford High School Summer College high school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to earn Stanford University credit while taking advantage of the exciting scholarly resources available to members of the Stanford community (June 19 - August 15).

Landmark School in Prides Crossing offers a four-week Academic Summer Program (July 5- 30, 2010) for students in grades 8-12, who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning disability. Afternoon activities are available. Application deadline is May 14th.

Green Across the Pacific

Be one of 12 American students selected to work with Chinese students during Green Across the Pacific’s Environmental Leadership Program in Vermont this summer.
Work on a meaningful project with a Chinese student in the context of an overview of regional natural history, economics, and politics contributing to natural resource management.
