It may be fun to lounge around in pajamas and veg out over winter break, but it’s also important to use the time off of school to explore new interests. After checking out the activities and programs below, you’ll find that there’s really no excuse for spending your time channel surfing and watching reruns this holiday break.
Diablo Glass School Teen Vacations Workshops: November 23rd-25th
The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and Diablo Glass Schoolhave
collaborated to offer Teen Vacation Camps. Located just blocks from the
MFA, Diablo is easily accessible by foot, car or public transportation.
Diablo's facilities offer glass blowing, flameworking, and kiln forming
studios. All camps start with an introduction at Diablo and then a tour
of the MFA's glass collection. At the MFA, students discuss the history
of glass, different techniques and artistic inspiration. After that,
the teens return to the Diablo studio to start their intensive glass
studies. Students choose between glass blowing or flameworking.
Four-day vacation week camps are also available with start dates on
December 21st and December 28th.
Travellers Worldwide: Holiday Community Service Projects
‘Tis the season for giving as they say; why not truly give your time to
helping others this winter break? Travellers Worldwide is offering a
variety of engaging short and long term volunteer projects and
internships all over the globe during the holidays. From project
placements for students and adults that include options such as care
and community projects, teaching, sports coaching, internships,
conservation, language and cultural courses, drama, dance, music and
more, there’s bound to be a project that interests you. Travellers
Worldwide also makes the process easy by assisting each participant in
planning all aspects of their chosen project. Most projects are for
students 17 and older, but if travelling with adults, younger students

Learn how to knit some warm scarves for those chilly winter days. Sew
Easy in Needham will offer School Vacation Sewing Camps throughout
December, including one on December 14th-18th. Students can choose from
over 3000 projects: from book bags; fleece vests; ponchos; mittens;
quilts; and more. If you can’t find a date that fits your schedule,
you can get a group of six or more of your friends together, and the
Sew Easy staff will hold a holiday vacation sewing camp especially for
you.

Blue Hills Ski Area Sports Vacation Camp: December 27th-31st
Blue Hills Ski Area Snow Sports Vacation Camp offers a five-day skiing
or snowboarding experience during the weeklong December vacation for
teens 15 and younger. Snow Sports camps are available for skiers and
riders of all abilities from beginner to advanced. Participants ski or
ride with a Blue Hills instructor from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day
with free unsupervised skiing or riding before and after the lesson
(from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. 5 p.m.). These camps are
a great way to catch some powder and spend some quality time outdoors
during school vacation.
Wheelock Family Theatre Holiday Drama Fest for Grades 3-12: December 28th-30th
Wheelock Family Theatre is the only theatre in New England with an
education program supported by a professional theatre and an
institution of higher education, Wheelock College. Teens can take part
in a variety of performing arts courses through this holiday workshop
that include stage combat, urban step, accents and dialogues, radio
plays, and prop making.
Create-a-Cook School Vacation Classes: December 28th-31st
Teens can learn to create delicious winter treats with Create a Cook in
Newton during their winter break. From classes such as “Bake it Up!”
that introduce teens to the art of cakes, cookies, and more to “Fast,
Easy, Fresh!” that teach students how to make healthy meals in a cinch.
