Spotlight of the Month
Be Part of a Generation of Doers Through Dosomething.org


 High school and college students who have won Do Something grants
to support their projects served as key-note panelists at Do Something's 2009

Over one hundred teens and young adults participated in Dosomething.org’s Social Action Boot Camp recently held at the Boston Children’s Museum; youth activists from across the nation gathered together to network and share their projects with professionals and each other. Read Full Article

        Volunteer & Internship Opportunities                    



October 15th (Woburn): Are you interested in community service? Do you want to take a leadership role in your community? Serve on the Woburn Youth Council and help lead community service projects and civic engagement projects.




October 15th (Reading):
The Arc of East Middlesex, which provides support to people with developmental disabilities, is looking for volunteers to help out with its Adaptive Aquatics Program that teaches kids age 3-12 who have a developmental disability
 to swim and have fun!



October 24th (Cambridge):
Get involved with People Making a Difference; volunteer for National Make a Difference Day to help improve Fresh Pond Reservation.





November 25th (Newton):
Minga, a youth-run non-profit dedicated to ending the child sex trade has plenty of internship positions available: from Youth Outreach Coordinators to Web Designers to Club Coordinators to an Assistant Campaign Director.





School Year (Boston):
Serve as a Gift Shop Assistant for the New England Baptist Hospital, a place where the care and comfort of patients is the highest mission.





School-Year (Norfolk): Greenschools is seeking Student Ambassadors in Grades 7-8 to work directly with the greenschools organization on Sustainable Education.





School-Year (Newton): Ever wondered how you could put your computer skills to good use? Discovering What's Next is looking for help re-designing its website. Accumulate community service hours while building your design portfolio.

During the academic year, Diablo Glass School offers after school teen programs and home school teen programs for students aged 12-18 that run for twelve weeks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:15 to 6:15 PM. Students may apply to their high schools to receive academic credit. Students may sign up at any time during the school year; no deadlines are enforced. Classes offer students a a peek at three techniques of glass work at different skill levels.

Plan and execute student-led green projects and you could win up to $1500 to support your work. Last year, over 500 schools participated in Increase Your Green - so start planning! Applications due October 13th, 2009.


Oct.-December: Cradles to Crayons is Gearing up for Winter and we need your help! Last year we recieved 7,500 orders for winter clothing. We expect the need to increase by 40% this year. Help area children in low income and homeless situations stay safe and warm this winter by hosting a drive for cozy clothing. We are especially in need of pants for girls and boys sizes: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 14/16 and 18/20. Set a goal and challenge your school, youth group or neighborhood to reach it! Then bring your donation to Cradles to Crayons.



Year-Round: Did you know that E-waste represents 2% of America's trash in landfills, but 70% of our overall toxic waste?  World Computer Exchange  accepts working computer and computer accessory donations year-round. Click here for a full list of acceptable donations.
